The black plastic handle of the product has an excessive concentration of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP), di-‘isononyl’ phthalate (DINP), (measured values: 2.8 %, 0.16%, 0.15 and 0.53 by weight, respectively). In addition, the plastic handle contains an excessive concentration of short chained chlorinated paraffines SCCP (measured value up to: 1.2 % by weight) SCCPs persist in the environment, are toxic to aquatic organisms at low concentrations and bio-accumulate in wildlife and humans, posing a risk to human health and the environment. Prolonged exposure to them through the skin may cause cancer.
